Library Learning Commons (LLC) is a resource center and hub of creativity and collaboration. The SRMS Makerspace is increasingly used for immersive, inquiry-based creation and exploration. Virtual Reality is an appropriate offspring of the LLC, allowing students to “travel” in 3D to just about any location, while deepening understanding and appreciation for the subject at hand. This grant will support the use of Virtual Reality view finders for two classes at a time, as well as unlimited premium, integrated content from NearPod (multi-grade, multi-discipline, integrated VR platform) for ten teachers for two years, with the intent to expand the number of classes and disciplines who utilize Virtual Reality in the future. Purpose: Provide teachers and students with the opportunity to deepen student-centered learning by providing the materials, resources and support for 3D, Virtual Reality “travel.” As a component of blended learning, VR can improve student creativity and understanding of concepts while increasing empathy and motivation to learn.
